Automotive History at the Traumwerk
The Hans-Peter Porsche collection
Hans-Peter Porsche collects not only tin toys and model railways, but also – it practically goes without saying – Porsches. At the Traumwerk, you will find rotating exhibits with cars from his collection that reflect the museum’s current theme.
Porsche 550
At the Traumwerk, you can marvel at a masterpiece of engineering up close: the Porsche 550. This legendary vehicle is characterised by its innovative flat box frame made of tubular steel that weighs just 59 kg. Upon this frame sits an elegant lightweight metal body weighing in at just 90 kg.
Porsche 356
The start of the Porsche legend: the very first Porsche, prototype 356/1, was a visionary mid-engine roadster. Ferry Porsche, the creative mind behind it, uttered the inspiring words: “When I couldn’t find my dream car, I decided to create it myself.”
This dream took shape with the Porsche 356 production model equipped with a modified frame and rear engine.
The first 50 cars with their characteristic aluminium body were carefully handcrafted in Gmünd, Austria, in the period after the Second World War. Get up close with the fascinating history of these automotive icons at the Traumwerk.
