Next stop: the model railway exhibition at the Traumwerk.

In just 17 minutes, you can experience a full day as model trains chug along 2.7 km of tracks through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. See famous buildings and everyday scenes, high tech and nostalgia, the sun and moon, lightning and thunder. In other words: all that life has to offer.

Over 200 Deutsche Bahn, ÖBB and SBB model trains make their way through their home countries. From Semmering to Gotthard, Friedrichshafen and Bregenz, they conquer 5 metres of altitude gain, pass many famous buildings and countless familiar scenes from everyday life. Experience spectacular moments and look for tucked-away details. 30 HD projectors recreate the sun and moon to allow visitors to experience a full 24 hours in just 17 minutes.

Germany

THE ICE: HIGH-TECH AND HIGH-SPEED

The ICE – the epitome of high-speed travel in Germany – is now in its 4th generation. At the Traumwerk, the ICE runs alongside its forefathers: classic old-style electric locomotives, standard series of the E10, E40, E41 and E50, diesel locomotives from V60 to V200 and classic steam locomotives such as the 01, 23, 41, 44 and 50 series. You will also see electric and diesel versions of the Traxx series.

Austria

TAURUS: AN AUSTRIAN CLASSIC

From Railjets to long freight trains: the Taurus family of locomotives is quite popular in Austria. And of course, it’s also popular in the Traumwerk model railway exhibition. In addition to the Rh1016/1116, featuring various paint jobs, you’ll see the Rh1041, Rh1012 and Rh1043, as well as the German 1018 and 1020 electric locomotives and 659, 650 and 694 steam locomotives. Keep your eye out for the Herkules diesel locomotive, too!

Switzerland

REACHING NEW HEIGHTS: THE CROCODILE

The Crocodile is well-known and loved among train enthusiasts. This classic Swiss mountain locomotive is an impressive 100 years old and right at home on all gauges. In the Swiss area of ​​the model railway exhibition, you will find RAm and RAe Tees, along with the typical Re 4/4 and Re 6/6 models and the modern Lok 2000 460.

Model railway maintenance

Over the past eight years, our model railway has enchanted countless visitors and remains a highlight of our collection among guests young and old. In order to ensure it keeps its magic, our model railway regularly undergoes maintenance and renovation work.

This work is an ongoing process that helps our railway maintain its vividness and quality. During maintenance work, certain sections may be temporarily closed. We do our best to keep closures to a minimum and thank you for your understanding.

So realistic – and so beautiful

200+ trains , more than 8,000 figurines and over 80,000 trees: the model railway at the Traumwerk is so much more than the sum of its parts! Its magic lies in its many tiny details. You’ll be sure to discover something new every time you visit. And behind the scenes? Well, that’s where things get really interesting…

FANTASY – UNLIMITED

From Gotthard to Friedrichshafen via Bregenz. From Semmering through the Tauern Mountains and on to Arlberg. In addition to these realistic routes, you’ll also find creative imaginary high-speed rail routes here. Trains and visitors quickly move from Germany to Switzerland and Austria. Be transported from reality to a fantasy land – and back again.

THE TEAM BEHIND THE TECHNOLOGY

The Traumwerk’s 10-person team of technicians and model makers ensures that everything runs smoothly along the 2,700-metre track and in the 340 m2 exhibition. From the control centre, train schedules are created and updated, TrainController software is used to coordinate processes, and everything is monitored with a watchful eye.
